7th Residential College

I would like to share a meaningful experience of being a resident of the 7th Residential College or Za'ba, University of Malaya.

From 2003 to 2006, that means I became a resident of the Residential College from the first day of enrolling as a student until the last semester of my studies at the University of Malaya.

While seniors are allowed to do anything as long as they do not physically touch the junior. This is when I was attracted to many juniors but they were not attracted to me at all.

As a result, his accommodation fees are higher than residential colleges that do not offer meals. Friday morning is my favorite time because the dining hall provides a roti canai menu. It seems normal but roti canai is a difficult thing to find in the University.

Now after 13 years old I left 7th residential college. It seems that many alumni have managed to get back there during the Dinner. I ?, so far remains a boy to take care of an aging mother, while I myself was sick too.

For each student who is in the first year, are required to stay in the Residential College as prescribed by the University. Based on the offer letter from the University, I was placed at Za'ba Residential College or the 7th Residential College.

The location of the Residential College, for me is very strategic because it is very close to the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences (my faculty). The distance from the residential college to the Faculty, only takes approximately 7 - 10 minutes.

I still remember, sweet memories when in the morning, 7th, 4th & 3rd residential colleges walked as in groups, heading towards their faculties. In the evening, like a bird returning to the nest, all the students of different faculties will walk together to return to the residential college.

When we start being residents of residential colleges, among the people we will first get to know and be friends with are our roommates.

In the first year, I lived in a room that provided a single bed and a double decker bed, that means I had 2 roommates, one named Madi, from Melaka, another, I called A.J, from Terengganu.

Madi is a Student of the Faculty of Education in the field of counseling, his study period is 4 years, while A.J is a Student of the Faculty of Engineering, also a study period of 4 years, a graduate of the ASASI UM.

This means I will graduate first from them. Madi with me, can be said to be so close, we can be categorized as bad boys only I like hanging out surau compared to Madi.

Even so, Madi is better at making friends than I am, imagine almost all seniors can be close to Madi.

While A.J is more alone, it is very rare to meet in a room because most of the time is spent at the Library or his brother's house in Gombak. A.J & Madi were among my best friends during my difficult and happy times while at the University.

Each student wish to remain a resident of a residential college, the rules stipulate that only active residents in any activity organized by the residential college administration will be considered active students to become residents for the next semester.

However, some students choose to stay outside of the residential college when they are in the 2nd year of study.

A.J is one of the friends who chose to be out of college. Rent in Pantai Dalam area when entering the 2nd year.

Every new student who is a resident of a residential college. Required to join the Student Committee (JKP), there are several portfolios offered to be participated by students.

I initially joined JKP Creative even though I did not know the role of JKP at first, especially the program under JKP Creative.

The JKP that gets the least attention among the residents must be Islamic Hall. It is responsible for the activities of the Surau as well as related matters.

I also joined the Residential College Technical Club. This is when I met Nuox,Wan and many other seniors who were a little different from other seniors.

Nuox is an engineering faculty student that I consider to be like my own brother because he is often an advisor when I face any problems.

This Technical Club, nuox has been rebranding under the name 7Network. Have SOP in every Residential College event. We are the installers of speakers, microphones etc.

I forgot, the incident that happened on the first day of enrolling in a Residential College, I could mistakenly call the Residential College Supervisor by the call ABANG. Neither SIR nor Mr. should be used as a call. The mistake caused a great deal of discomfort in announcing the matter in a meeting of new students.

In my second year, Madi became a Student Assistant, while A.J lived out off campus. then I shared a room with 'Pak Din' from Johor, a student of the computer science faculty. While another junior, originally from Melaka, named Naim, a student of the cultural center.

Pak Din was initially a bit lonely person, a scooter, not very friendly with me. But eventually became a good member of me.

We are very familiar, very good even willing to lend me a motorcycle are just not able to take me because of the weight.

Time flies so fast, from first year students now turning to year 2, I became a senior. One of the traditions for residents at the 7th Residential College is that juniors should take a senior’s signature.

The 2nd year, I started to be active in the Islamic Committee, not that I wanted to show piety to other students.

Only as a person who is a bit lacking in terms of religious knowledge, should be friends with students who are in religious knowledge.

Currently, I know great people like Jowel, Karim, Ustaz Abdullah Sani, Ustaz Hafiz Subahir & many more. If I have any questions in matters relating to religion, Ustaz Abdullah & Ustad Hafiz Subahir will be the one to answer every question, they both come from Johor.

The third year is the last year that I was in University, I was roommates with Firdaus and Kamal, is a 2-year student, a student of the Faculty of Science, while Kamal is same a faculty with me.

Honestly when we have a roommate or housemate, surely each has a different attitude. I am thankful to have a roommate with Firdaus and Kamal because they can accept my attitude during being their roommate.

Besides my roommate, there are 4 close friends who live in the same college, namely wan, epul, zul & erry. They were also friends when I was hard and happy as a UM student.

Next, continue about the special features of the 7th Residential College, it is one of the residential colleges that provides food to its residents 3 times a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

During Ramadan, the dining hall provides food as early as 3 am for Muslim students to have sahur.

When I was in the 2nd year, me and paddin, my roommate, woke up late, the clock showed almost dawn. Just had time for sahur, empty water with a loaf of bread only.

In front of the student dormitory block, there is a gazebo located between the 2 courts. It is a place of choice to relax in the evening for female students or a place of love for couples in love.

When I was in my first year, Za'ba residential college students who wanted to drink or eat after Isyak. Must hang out at the 3rd or 4th Residential College Cafe.

When I entered my 3rd year, the café for 7th residential college students was ready to be built and operational.

My menu of choice is Mango juice with Chicken Fried Rice is the best. It's just that the price is a little higher than usual, in my opinion.

Maybe that's the price of food in KL. Behind the College Principal's Residence, there is a Gazebo whose name I forgot, usually held at the Cultural Council in addition to the Dining Hall.

Not to be forgotten is the grocery store operating on the ground floor of the dining hall building. Truly so many sweet memories of being a resident of the za’ba residential college.

Probably because of that the motto of the residential college is "once za'ba, always zabahan" because it is every alumnus on will miss or love the memories at the Za'ba Residential College.

My brother, formerly a resident of the 10th Residential College, is located on a hill. It is high and tired to climb, does not provide food.
