Give a Talk at School

The end of 2017, I got the opportunity to work in one of the private companies whose core business is e-learning and is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. After almost 2 years I became unemployed.

The company is conduct a campaign and collected data related to online learning in schools throughout Malaysia.

Therefore, the company has appointed several contract staff to assist in running the campaign within a year. I am one of the contract staff appointed for the state of Kelantan.

Our worked hours are flexible, our job is to get permission from the school to give talks to students or teachers within a certain period. The date and time of the talk will be held depending on the school management.

The number of employees in the state of Kelantan, including the Manager were 8-10 people, mostly younger than me.

The skills most emphasized to us as company employees are public speaking skills. This is because we will be giving a lecture in front of hundreds of students, including teachers at a time.

Our movement is not only monitored by the company, we are also monitored by district education officers as the officers in charge of schools in a district.

The main goal of our task is to increase the use of e-learning portals provided by the Ministry to teachers, students and parents.

At the same time identify the main problems faced by teachers, students and parents in the use of e-learning portals provided.

Every day, after completing the briefing and identifying the problems encountered, we will send a report via email using the format provided by the company.

Then on the weekend we will send all the documents required by the company to be sent to the Ministry. The equipment we often bring or use is privately owned when giving talks in schools.

The Company only supplies pamphlets or books related to the programs we are running. Briefing materials are provided by the company only often me and my colleagues modify depending on the situation or location of the school involved.

When I was in school, the lecture session was the most boring time. Therefore, my friends and I often share ideas on how to engage students in listening to what we have to say during talks.

For primary school students, we will create a quiz with giving consolation prizes for students who answered questions posed. The method managed to attract students to listen to what we reached each time the talk.

Among the precious memories during the period I gave talks in Schools was that there was a school that I did not know existed.

I rely entirely on GPS to find the location of a school especially in rural areas. The situation of students in urban and rural areas is very much different, the saddest in my opinion.

These differences situation should no longer exist because Malaysia has long been independent and are heading towards a developed nation status.

Among the challenges I faced throughout my tenure as a speaker. Affected by food poisoning until me failed to give a talk in Dabong district, Kuala Krai.

My mother was found unconscious due to fatigue from fasting, fortunately my cousin was able to realize my mother's condition.

Riding a very small boat to go to a school, luckily had a chance to change positions with colleagues.

However, my contract was abruptly terminated upon a change of administration after the 14th General Election.

The situation should be accepted with pleasure because it is normal for every employee with contract status, at risk of being laid off at any time depending on the situation of the company.
