Join Program at University

Among the memories I had while studying at the University before. I have been the Director of several programs at the Residential College and the Department of Media Studies, University of Malaya. 

Probably due to too many programs that I participated in causing me to lose focus on studies, the actual period of 3 years is a short period to get a Bachelor's Degree from a reputable University.

While in my final year, I was supposed to spend time preparing a thesis proposal but was more active in extracurricular activities. I managed to be the Program Director for 2 programs, one program of the Kelantan student association and the other director of the residential college program.

For the Director of the residential college program, the name of the program is Tautan Kasih. Involves orphans. The program runs for 3 days 2 nights, basically the program looks very simple but is very beneficial to the participants especially those who are residential college residents who are directly or indirectly involved.

Although the program seems simple but still has its own challenges, especially in terms of financial constraints for the program. Yet with the cooperation of each committee member, every problem or challenge that exists, can be resolved immediately. Includes cooperation from the management of the residential college itself involving accommodation and meals.

Although the program organized was a residential college level program, every program director included me. Must complete a program paper work to be presented to the Residential College Student Committee Members. 

This situation is a valuable exposure for students, especially those who lead a program. If all members of the residential college student committee agree with the paper work presented, then the program can be carried out according to the set date.

While I was busy preparing my thesis, I received a phone call from someone. He asked me to be the Director of the program for the Annual General Meeting of the Kelantan Student Association, University of Malaya. 

Honestly, I am still wondering why I was chosen when there are still many Kelantan students who are active in the Association. Is it because of my straightforward demeanor ?, easy to follow instructions ?.

The Kelantan Student Association at that time, in my opinion, was a hot student association with the Student Affairs division of the University. The proof is that the Student Affairs department is not so easy to approve the association’s application through me to hold an annual general meeting.

Honestly, I do not want to interfere in the affairs of the association with the student affairs division, but due to the trust given, I have to work so that the annual general meeting of the association runs smoothly.

In my view, every student should take the opportunity to be involved with whatever program is held, whether at the residential college, department or faculty level. 

The most important thing is to be good at dividing time with lessons, don't be like me who failed in time management so as to fail to achieve excellent results. Otherwise I'm not unemployed until now.

AKU PELAJAR PENGAJIAN MEDIA,

Walaupun telah lama aku tinggalkan Universiti Malaya, terutama Jabatan Pengajian Media, masih ada kenangan yang terpahat dalam ingatan. Pelbagai kisah tidak tercatat tetapi di coret dalam kamus hidup aku. Setelah melaporkan diri di Kolej Kediaman Ke-7, aku mempunyai tempoh 1-2 minggu untuk menentukan Subjek Major & Minor bagi melengkapkan Ijazah Sarjan Muda nanti.   Pada mulanya aku berminat pada Pengajian Hubungan Antarabangsa & Strategik sebagai subjek major.  Namun pada hari pertama masuk kelas pengenalan, lecture terus bagi assignment yang lebih fokus kepada undang-undang antarabangsa, membuatkan aku terasa takut sangat dengan beban bakal aku pikul nanti. Lagipun aku bukan dalam kategori pelajar pintar seperti orang lain. Mengapa Pegawai Penerangan?

Ketika aku masih bergelar pelajar universiti, telah terdetik persoalan di akal ini. Apakah jenis pekerjaan yang bakal berjaya diperolehi apabila menamatkan pengajian nanti.  Semestinya, di antara alasan mengapa kita belajar adalah untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan yang diimpikan. Aku merupakan pelajar Pengajian Media, Fakulti Sains Sosial, Universiti Malaya. Sepanjang tempoh pengajian, aku lebih fokus mempersiapkan diri bekerja sebagai seorang Pegawai Perhubungan Awam (PRO). Abang aku juga merupakan pelajar Jabatan Pengajian Media. Beliau telah berjaya menjawat jawatan sebagai  Pegawai Penerangan di Jabatan Penerangan Negara, di bawah Kementerian Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia .  Aku secara tidak langsung mula memahami tugas seorang pegawai penerangan jabatan atau kementerian.
