National Youth Conference Council

The National Youth and Sports Department is one of the Departments under the Ministry of Youth & Sports Malaysia, it offers various special programs for youths in Malaysia. The programs are divided according to the divisions under JBSN such as the Youth Development Division, Sports Development Division and Rakan Muda Development Division.

I had the opportunity to be involved as a member of the committee o National Youth Consultative Council (MPBN) under the youth development division. MPBN is a Consultative Council that involves  the Malaysian Youth Council (MYC) and government agencies or ministries.

MPBN functions as a consultative council on issues related to Malaysian Youth Development. Every issue or problem raised by the MYC through MPBN will be presented to the relevant agencies or ministries through a conference. The agencies or Ministries related to the issues raised by the MYC, will submit answers before or during the conference.

While in the MPBN Committee, the Youth Parliament program is in the process of implementation, another opportunity that I should not miss to join as a committee member. MPBN and the Malaysian Youth Parliament are coordinated by the Social Development Branch, Youth Development Division, National Youth and Sports Department.

Honestly, I am not sure if other countries have a National Youth Consultative Council like the one implemented in Malaysia. My job at the National Youth Consultative Council is to assist officers in preparing the Report of the previous Consultative Council Conference which contains responses from the relevant Agencies or Ministries on issues raised at the Conference.

I have to get feedback from each Ministry or Department or Agency and collect it in the form of a report. The process of preparing the report took quite a while. The report will be presented at the next Conference. Conference Venues change frequently but in the last years I served at KBS, the International Youth Center became the official location for the Conference.

My assignment before and after the conference was technical and logistical preparation. An important part of every conference. Preparation covers everything, me and the team can be said to be like unsung HERO. People may not see our job but we are there to do it

Although tired throughout the success of the conference but each of them was still able to carve a smile because in my opinion, we had fun with the work done. Once everything is done, we will dine together. Usually top officials such as the Branch Director would spend us a meal after completing all the tasks.

To me, this kind of situation is called real teamwork. If there are members who have problems, all will help each other in solving the problems faced before. Even though I left KBS/KBS/Youth Division for too long, the memories I created will be remembered forever, moreover, it taught me many things about the challenges and trials of the world of work.

AKU PELAJAR PENGAJIAN MEDIA,

Walaupun telah lama aku tinggalkan Universiti Malaya, terutama Jabatan Pengajian Media, masih ada kenangan yang terpahat dalam ingatan. Pelbagai kisah tidak tercatat tetapi di coret dalam kamus hidup aku. Setelah melaporkan diri di Kolej Kediaman Ke-7, aku mempunyai tempoh 1-2 minggu untuk menentukan Subjek Major & Minor bagi melengkapkan Ijazah Sarjan Muda nanti.   Pada mulanya aku berminat pada Pengajian Hubungan Antarabangsa & Strategik sebagai subjek major.  Namun pada hari pertama masuk kelas pengenalan, lecture terus bagi assignment yang lebih fokus kepada undang-undang antarabangsa, membuatkan aku terasa takut sangat dengan beban bakal aku pikul nanti. Lagipun aku bukan dalam kategori pelajar pintar seperti orang lain. BAGAIMANA MENJADI TELEMARKETING?

Aku ingin kongsi pengalaman bekerja sebagai Telemarketing bagi sebuah Institusi Pendidikan di bandar Kota Bharu, seingat aku sekitar tahun 2008. Walaupun bekerja atas nama status kontrak, ia memberi pengalaman baru kepada aku, secara peribadi.Maklumlah budak pengajian media dari Universiti Malaya tiba-tiba jadi budak marketing. Apabila aku tamat latihan "on job training" di sebuah GLC yang base di Airports Subang pada tahun 2007. Aku mengambil keputusan balik kampung untuk menjaga ibu yang kini tinggal seorang setelah kematian abah. Aku mengambil inisiatif menghantar resume ke seluruh institusi atau organisasi yang dirasakan sesuai di sekitar Kota Bharu pada awal tahun 2008. Salah sebuah organisasi yang aku hantar permohonan terbuka telah menghubungi aku untuk hadir ke sesi temuduga yang aku tidak mengetahui apa jawatannya.
