People and public telephones

Public telephones were one of the main devices in society once upon a time. The main function of the public telephone was as a communication tool before there were mobile phones or smartphones like now.

For couples in long distance love, on a public phone. They are in touch with each other. If something untoward happens, people will try to ask for help using public telephones. At that time, have a hand phone or install a dedicated line phone at home is one thing which is costly and not all that capable.

To me, the public telephone is one of the tools that help build human civilization, especially for Malaysians from then until now. Just when thinking about the fate of public telephones now, it is very sad because it is very difficult to use public telephones that are still in good condition and functional. IN the Ketereh Parliamentary constituency alone, in my opinion almost 99% of the public telephones provided by the government are just stumps.

To be honest the culture of vandalism here is too critical. Public phones are damaged by some residents is to get the coin. Most of them are drug addicts. Then anything that can be taken, including cables will be stolen for the purpose of being sold to raise money to buy drugs.

If something untoward happens such as a fire. How to get help after a facility that should be usable, just stay the container alone. Some may argue that society now rarely uses public telephones. Is that used as an excuse to do damage and steal ?. The fact is that there are still many Malaysians living in misery and cannot afford even just to own the cheapest mobile phone.

I believe public telephones in developed countries, are much more perfect than in this country. Why does such a situation exist ?. Perhaps it is closely related to the morality of society itself. The thinking of a society determines the progress of a nation.

These irresponsible people, not only damage public telephones. Willing to cut telephone cables and electric cables in order to satisfy the desire to earn money easily. I am speaking based on the situation in the Ketereh Parliament where the number of drug addicts is very worrying because now it involves children.

If we want to find out who is at fault, this issue will never be resolved. Public telephones here are now history. It should be all parties, especially policy makers or leaders who must try to improve the moral ethics of the local community. In order for a destructive culture to be replaced with a culture of building something useful for the nation and the country.

Is it hope or wishful thinking?
