Impact of Logging

Each country has its own natural resources that can be used as a source of income. I am lucky to be born in this country which has various natural resources as a source of income, it will help the social and economic development of the community and the country in general. Malaysia is one of the countries rich in tropical rainforest resources. It encourages the existence of logging activities due to the high demand for the country's timber industry.

However, every single natural resource, if not properly managed, will surely run out of time. The value of timber is very high in the local and international markets, anyone who manages to get the permission of the authorities to log, is sure to make a profit. But should the profit be on one side only ?. The fact that tropical rainforests do not belong to humans only.

Too many of the effects result from uncontrolled logging. The most noticeable and frequent effect is massive floods by bringing logs flowing in the same way causing damage to the property of the villagers close to the logging area. In my opinion, humans can log but let it be controlled, don’t cut down all the wood without thinking about the impact if it is felled. Eventually the beautiful tropical rainforest seen is now turned into open land, when it rains heavily, then there are landslides and damage to the soil structure which is supposed to be strong.

Forests are home to many different types of wildlife. When it is destroyed by greedy humans, then where should the animals live ?. Because of that, we often hear reports of wild animals such as tigers, elephants entering human settlements. When habitat is destroyed, automatically the food source of wildlife is also destroyed, so how do they overcome hunger ?. Whatever is seen is the food on this wildlife including humans.

Humans only see the benefits of logging but forget the losses that must be borne by future generations. Due to that, there are animals that have become extinct forever due to human actions themselves. Have humans ever put themselves in the position of wildlife ?. Where will humans go if homes and food sources are destroyed ?. What are human feelings ?. That is what wildlife in tropical rainforests like Malaysia feels.

The natural resources are to be shared and not to be monopolized by one party. I believe wildlife doesn’t mind sharing natural resources like a felled tree, but let us take what is needed instead of taking it so as to usurp the rights of other creatures. When found guilty, various reasons are given to justify what is done, including using religious reasons. That is human nature.

There is a statement issued by the local authority that logging is good for the tiger population. I am trying to understand what is being tried to be conveyed based on a given statement, is it common sense logic or vice versa ?. What usually happens based on what I’ve seen, the logging area tends to be an area of open land after the activity is carried out.

The effect of logging refers to floods, an effect that always happens in the country. The remnants of the logs, which are washed away by the strong current, are capable of destroying anything in the path of the current. I’m just sharing my feelings and opinions out of regret and sadness at seeing what happened due to logging even though it wasn’t 100% the main cause.
